Shayan Kaksh

Divine Rest and Adornment Spaces

The sacred ‘Shayan Kaksh’ and ‘Shingaar Kaksh’ embody Maa Durga’s dual essence, her compassionate, nurturing rest and her majestic, formidable power; offering devotees’ profound spiritual solace and inspiration through these revered chambers.

At Urjaa Dham, the ‘Shayan Kaksh’ and ‘Shingaar Kaksh’ for Maa Durga are integral sacred spaces located on the left side upon entering the temple’s ‘Garbhagriha’.

The ‘Shayan Kaksh’ (Sleeping Chamber) serves as Maa Durga’s resting place during the temple’s closure in the afternoon and night. It contains a beautifully decorated ‘Jhula-Palang’ (Bed) with comfortable ‘Bichona’ (bedding). This chamber symbolizes her compassionate, nurturing nature as a motherly protector who revitalizes cosmic and individual energies through restful repose.

The ‘Shingaar Kaksh’ (Adornment Chamber) showcases Maa Durga’s divine power and majesty expressed through the “Solah Shringar”, sixteen traditional adornments. Equipped with a makeup table, mirror (which is always covered during maintenance), and decorated with sacred ‘Vastra’ (Dress), ‘Aabhushan’ (Jewelry), Sindoor, Bangles, and other sacred items, it embodies her Shakti, vitality, and readiness to conquer darkness with radiant strength.

Together, these chambers embody the balance between her nurturing grace and formidable warrior energy, offering devotees spiritual solace and inspiration.

Access to these Kaksh is strictly controlled; entry is only permitted for bedding and cleaning purposes. Importantly, only Maa Durga’s reflection should appear in the mirro, any other reflection reportedly causes the mirror to crack mysteriously within days.

During the ‘Navratras’, an ‘Akhand Jyoti’ (eternal flame) is kept burning continuously in the ‘Shayan Kaksh’, and the chamber remains open 24 hours throughout the festival, allowing devotees to receive uninterrupted ‘Darshan’ of Maa Durga’s divine presence.
